My Story -
I can personally say, the progress made in research and treatments has benefited me in dramatic ways. While my symptoms started when I was 17, I wasn't diagnosed with Scleroderma until I was 39 yrs old .That was significantly due to the lack of familiarity with the disease by internists and general practitioners at the time and limited protocols for diagnosis especially if symptoms are not severe. Scleroderma manifests itself in many different ways as does the onset and progression. About 2 years ago my health started to dramatically decline (pre-Covid). I had difficulty walking the length of my street without getting out of breath. Even taking 2 flights of stairs in my house was difficult. I went through a battery of tests and was put on a drug and treatment regimen that has significantly improved my quality of life and most probably extended my life. None of this would have been possible if it weren't for investment in research. But research alone is not all that the money we raise supports. It goes towards educating patients to be their own advocates and support their wellbeing. It goes towards educating medical practitioners, the public and our legislatures to advocate for more research dollars.
I want to thank all of you who have supported Team Krieger and my Walk efforts over the last decade and those of you who will do so this year.
